Better handling of chipsets in some cases.  Try backing down
you memory on boot with a mem=127M (for example if you have 128M of
memory) and see if that helps.... you need to get to a LILO prompt
which allows you to supply the parameter (on RH I've had to back it
down 2M in some cases):

LILO: linux mem=127M

This is more typical of newer chipsets... but who knows, may help
you... it's something to try anyway.
