It depends on who's doing the management.  When I had @home, they were 
blocking TCP and UDP port 53 (DNS).  While I could run my SMTP and web and 
FTP server, I couldn't do my own name service for my domain, so folks either 
had to hit me by direct IP, by my c192121-a.blahwaytoolong.home.com name, or 
have someone else do my name service for me, and then either give me shell 
access to update the zone files, or do something else silly.

I wound up using granitecanyon do the DNS, which worked okay but was a pain 
for me because I couldn't control reload time and propagation.
