Yikes!

Do you mean 'EDLIN' ? If so, then the command-line version of 'vi' (called 'ex')
is kinda similar and 'ed' (shudder) is even more primitive.

If you want a keyboard-based full-screen editor then 'vi' and 'emacs' are probably
the two most popular...but there are dozens and dozens to choose from.

Offhand, I recall: red, doc, jove, crisp, joe, mcedit, pico, jed,
half a dozen 'vi' clones and probably as many 'emacs' clones...I'm sure
I've forgotten LOTS of important ones.

My advice (for what it's worth) is to spend the time to learn 'vi' or 'emacs'.
Emacs has a steep learning curve - but well worth getting to the top. 'vi'
is simpler - but a bit quirky and less powerful. I use 'vi'.

However, we are coming dangerously close to starting an editor war - so I'd
better shut up.
