Chris,

Are you getting something like this?

hdd: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdd: packet command error: error=0x54
ATAPI device hdd:
  Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
  Copy protection key exchange failure - Key not present -- (asc=0x6f,
ascq=0x01)
  The failed "Report Key" packet command was:
  "a4 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0c 02 00 "
(repeat)

If so, it's basically the drive complaining that it wasn't given the
proper "CSS key" to access the DVD data. Most of the older DVD drives
didn't care, but if I remember right, the mpaa started twisting DVD
drive manufacturers to require the key be present in the drive in order
to access the DVD, supposedly to make DVD harder to "COPY". <cough>
Xine seems to be able to work around this problem (proper plugin
required).

Mine gripes about it and gives me all kinds of errors like the one
above, but it has never caused me any troubles.

Xine works great, given where it is in it's development. It's actually
useable.

I never was able to get OMS to work. I think they tried to make things
too overly complicated rather than make it work, and then work on the
extras.

There are a couple of others out there, but I haven't tried them yet.
They're still early yet.
