[NTLUG:Discuss] July 17 - Caldera - Dallas program

I agree with the assessment of Caldera and have decided to move on to a
different distro. Having tried Mandrake, RedHat, and SuSE, I think I'll
spend time with Debian. One thing that I enjoyed with Caldera was that they
didn't release the distro until it was completely ready ( I've been burned
twice by RHAT). I've noticed that Debian has a slower release cycle,
hopefully they spend the extra time testing all of the distro and don't
include alpha code.

Unfortunately, SuSE has headed to the "installable images only available
when you buy a boxed set" approach.
On the one hand, this may be partly the result of having _SO_ much stuff
that they pretty much need to release DVDs, CD-ROMs being too small to
cope with it. On the other hand, it looks like you'll not be seeing
LinuxCentral SuSE 7.1 CDs any time soon.
"Evil" though the GCC 2.96 issue may be, it looks as though RHAT and
Mandrake may be the only RPM-based choices, with Debian remaining the
"definitely staying libre" option.
