I've got Mandrake 8.0 installed.
It did not recognize the es1938 sound card and installed the wrong
driver for it. I have yet to make that work with the esound daemon.
(running esd manually just bails). I fixed /etc/modules.conf to point to
the esssolo1 driver, and kmix will produce a feedback squeal from my
microphone, but. Wait! just changed the /etc/modules.conf to
sound-slot-1 from sound-slot-0 and it just played the KDE entry tune after
the reboot as I was typing this. The sound-slot-0 entry was the default.
go figure. (I got the hint from /var/log/messages.)
I can't dual boot into Windows 98 without powering off. It seems the
A20 line is stuck. This makes Windows not load himem.sys, and so all you
get is the Dos prompt (which isn't supposed to exist in Windows 98, eh?
[Canadian lingo, there, from a Texan, no less!]).
Oh, well. Windows 98 leaves the pcmcia network card in a funny state,
and so I have to power off to boot into Linux. Tit for tat, I suppose.
