Hello,

I've had AT&T at Home since October and have found it to be very solid. I
don't use the email service, I let my wife have an email account there.

The only connectivity outages that I can remember were momentarily, maybe a
day or two at MOST. And they usually occured after a SEVERE thunderstorm,
leading me to beleive that the storm did something to the line. Perhaps
water, or ESD, or something of the sort.

DSL I had before that and continually had problems ranging from week-long
outages, Email headaches through their system and NNTP issues. The icing on
the cake was when I moved from central Arlington to North Arlington, SWBell
DSL actually swore that DSL was available where I was moving to and it
wouldn't be an issue transferring the account to the new address.

Needless to say it wasn't available and SWBell then said it would be
available in one month. Well, I was irate because they actually ->'swore'<-
that it was available at that moment. So I demanded to be released from my
contract due to infringement on their behalf. After argueing for weeks to
be released they finally said ok, they even let me keep the DSL modem,
which I sold to Discount Electronics here in Arlington. Later I find out
though, months after I got out of my contract, that I was still being
charged about 15$ a month for a regular internet account through them. They
let me out of the DSL contract, but not the internet contract, they shafted
me that way. I explained that I hadn't used that account since I didn't
know I had it, heck, I didn't even own a modem any more since the NIC for
@Home broadband used it's slot.

The problem with having DSL frequently you may find is if you do not want
to pay it for one reason or another, the way I didn't want to because I
felt that since I was out of my contract that I was free and clear. But
since it was attached to my telephone bill I had to pay it regardless, if I
wanted to keep my phone active.

Beware the DSL people, for they lurk in the fine print!!

Just my opinion,

Will Pearson

Yes, it does have everything to do with your neighborhood. I had ATT at Home
Garland for 2 years and I had 2 downtimes - each was for no more than an
hour.

I moved to Richardson last June and I've had MANY downtimes, often for
hours on end. I was down for about a week and a half solid back in
October. It just went down one day and stayed down, then all of a sudden
it was back up again.

Just my $0.02
