That's weird - my Umax Astra 610S (also SCSI) doesn't leave it's lamp
on.  What makes you think that the lamp has to stay on because it's
SCSI?

I have no idea *why* it would leave it on though - maybe they just
decided to save money and not build electronics to turn it off. After
all, what do they care that you need to buy new tubes every few months
(or whatever)?
