[NTLUG:Discuss] Interesting looking vendor

1. The 3rd Saturday events moved to Big Town Shopping Center. Now run by
the First Saturday people; not a particularly good sale, IMHO.

2. Thunderbird has a cache running at the speed of the processor core, thus
is significantly faster than the Slot A Athlon. Thunderbird IS the current
Athlon. The idea that the Slot A Athlons run faster in MHz than the new
Thunderbird variant is incorrect.

3. Duron is an Athlon with some leads unconnected, thus without full Athlon
capabilities. (There was an interesting Internet account of someone who
used a pencil to reconnect the original components...apparently there was
enough conductivity in the pencil line to work. I'd sure like to see that
one for myself!).

4. Personally, I generally prefer ASUS because of their superior support
for their boards. They post downloadable driver and BIOS upgrades for years
after a board is no longer current. I also have found SOYO to be quite good.

5. There are a number of processor/motherboard packages in the processor
plus motherboard combination for the prices you mentioned for a motherboard
alone. This is particularly true of Duron and the slotted Athlons.

I hope this helps.
