I've never seen a Linux-on-Windows running, but as far as I know it's MUCH
slower than a "normal" linux.
You got problems with Partition Magic. At first, you have to defragmentate
(I hope this is the good word, not sure) and then (not sure about this, but
it can solve some problems) go to dos (I mean rebooting to dos-mode). This
is to make sure all your information is on the beginning of your HD. If PM
splits your HD, information that's on the second part (like maybe part of
your registry) can't be read, because it's formatted when installing linux.
This may have been the problem. If you decide to install a "real" linux I
suggest formatting again (or try running fips/partition magic to split it
the way described above. If this doesn't solve it or something else happens,
please describe the other problems you mentioned.
