If your looking to run Linux on a 486, SuSE is kind of FAT to fit into
that processor.  I've done lots of looking, and actually think Red Hat or
Mandrake are a better choice for running on a 486 (I feel like i'm
waiting on X to catch up much less of the time. 

There is a 486 specific version of mandrake (7.0.2) available (without
all the "contrib" programs) at 
CheapBytes for 1.99 (or 6.0 for free if you want to get real cheap) If
you do check out cheapbytes be sure to look and the free stuff page.
