The reason why I decided to compile the sources was because I thought
I had to. It says on the GNOME web site that binary packages are
available for SuSE 6.3 or 6.4, but I'm using 6.1.

That certainly could be. But I didn't use any extra compile
options. BTW, what is libpixbufloader?
