[NTLUG:Discuss] MI2 boycott - clarifications(?)

I included the link to http://www.bigbrother.net in my original post so
that anyone who had questions as to why this movie had been chosen, why
we're doing it, etc. etc.

Now the author of the bigbrother site recommended that people just not
watch the movie, go home and watch something not on dvd, not associated
with the MPAA, etc.

However, I don't believe this will raise awareness of the issue at hand.
If nobody shows up to the movie, the public will just assume that the
movie bombed.

But if we have a large enough group of people, actively handing out
leaflets (presumably with urls to more info on them) then maybe we could
cause enough of a stir so that the media would be forced to bring light to
the issue.

Oh, and the issue is that I should be able to view/use my *legally
purchased* data using any tool I want, under any OS that I want. If I
want to undertake the daunting task of writing my very own dvd player,
then I should be allowed to.

To use the obiligatory car analogy, I wouldn't buy a car that had it's
hood welded shut where only the dealer can work on it, and so neither do I
want to be forced to use software that I can't fix or improve. I wouldn't
by a car that would only run on Mobil gas, and neither would I want to be
forced to view/listen to my *legally purchased* data on an os that I can't
fix/improve.

(yes, I know it's not perfect... analogies never are)

The public should have a right to listen/view/backup their legally
purchased media however they want, using whatever combination of
software/hardware they want.

Hopefully this will clarify why I'm trying to organize this.
