  From what I've seen, the most copied software is the most sold software.
Software with copy protection doesn't sell well.

  While you can debate the chicken and the egg, I have noticed over the
past 20 years that people copy software to try it.  They then purchase the
software if it is a good value for them, in order to obtain the manuals
and the technical support.

  IMO, software (and video) companies that copy protect their product, or
companies that don't provide free support to legit. registered users, or
companies that provide their manuals ONLINE (no paper copies) will be out
of business in the future.  

  I believe that Linux is making a new business model come true.  Give
away the software like candy.  Charge for the support.  People will pay
for support.
