I appreciate the offer here, but I was total dumbass & had not made
a bootdisk. I made one for 5.1 when I first installed. I had lots of
trouble getting my monitor to run under 5.1. I'm not a real hacker
type, so that was absolutely zero fun. Anyway, upgraded to 5.2 with
out a hitch. Everything was great until updating to Win98 redid the
MBR and Lilo wouldn't come back up.

I fiddled & fiddled. Used SuSE & booted from CD and thought I
had a clue. Lost my mind there, & at one point while my son was
*helping* me I noticed that under fdisk the partitions were flagged
with a warning, or some such, about not ending on a cylinder boundary.

So, I booted off my RH CD managed to get in as root only. Tried &
retried but could never get any of my assigned users to come up. If
I didn't log in as root, the entry would die at the login screen. So, I
went in as root, saved (with another dose of great pain!) the data I
had created.

Since then, all I've done is cry into my soggy cereal and talk about
doing a total reinstall, but I haven't worked up enough nerve to try
doing it yet. I've just got some strange fear that something else will
go wrong.

That's where I stand though.
