The socket version of Athlon is due very soon (Spitfire) in a couple months
along with socket A motherboards.  These will have significant performance
advantages because of on-die full speed L2 cache.  Check out this amusing
article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/000410-000014.html .  However,  I am
waiting for SMP athlon mb's which are now due in September.
