Can you give us the drive geometry for your new drive?
This would include cylinders, heads, sectors. Also, are
you able to see how the drive is being recognized in your
BIOS? Depending on how old your machine is, you may have
to tell your bios to view the geometry as a large drive or
how ever your bios names such an option. Also, depending
on the utility you are using (possibly Disk Druid?) you
may not be allowed to partition more than 7Gb in one
partition, and your utility may show you something that
would make you think it was only recognizing 7Gb.

Also, what fix did Maxtor's customer service give you?
We may be able to help you apply it to your Linux
installation depending on what it is.
