Well, I'd suggest the WinNT setting, as Linux is closer to NT than 95/98 under
the hood.
At what point does the laptop do this? During or after the POST? Does LILO pop
up? That can be a symptom of a mis-installed bootloader. Try booting from a
rescue disk if possible.
