I'd like to thank all of those who offered advice on how to copy my data
to a new hard-drive. It turned out to be as simple as "cp -ax / /<new
disk mount point>". Mind you that this only works if the file system is
only on one partition. It took only about 45 minutes to copy the data,
and then I spent another 45 minutes getting my computer to boot from the
new drive properly (> 8GB and all that mess).
Also, after being pointed to it, I found the HOWTO on the linuxdoc.org
website, I swear I looked for just such a thing 3 or more times and
never saw it. You know what they say, if it's right in front of your
face, you'll never see it. ;-)
