Help!

My swap partition is not "releasing" old swap files, i.e. there
appear to be about 89 megs that are living there completely and
leaving only about 28 megs for applications to use.  I think this
first occurred when I used ImageMagick.  Now Netscape wants to
load up the rest of the swap and then grind to a halt.  The
computer actually locked and I had to shut it down!  (First time
ever in about 3 years.)  When I rebooted, I still found the swap
partition with 89 megs on it.

Is this normal?  Is there anyway to "flush" the swap partition?
