I have also set up scripts in the past that get run from like
/etc/profile when a user logs in that checks the user and if it is a
particular user (like root) it pages me or if it matches a set of
parameters, like it if is my user, but not from my IP. As rarely as I
log into that box remotely, I don't mind a page when I do, but like a
page when someone else does. I have done this with both internet access
(via mail), and via a modem, dial and page me.
