Your Netscape is probably preloading incompatible libraries. I did get the
nppdf.so plugin working with netscape-mdk4.61-stable (something like that) on
rpmfind.net.
If you just want a helper, xpdf works fine.

go to Edit|Preferences, choose Navigator|Applications, then choose New
Here are the field values I use...
Description: Adobe
MIME TYpe: application/pdf
Sufixes: pdf
Then below that choose application and use
/usr/local/bin/adobe_reader %s
This will launch the adober reader with the file you chick on.
