I have to concur; I actually was contacted by the publisher of "Maximum
Linux" as they were looking for writers as well as a web presence,
and thought it would be a neat idea to latch some advertising onto my
web pages.

They were trying to sell me spam, which made it pretty clear that the
magazine contents were unlikely to be terribly serious.

Linux Journal is decidedly more serious; it doesn't even take "opening
the baggie" and cracking open a copy of Maximum Linux to determine that.

The magazine "Linux Magazine" actually looks really rather good; they
have been doing a pretty impressive job of locating good authors, and
appear to have more technical depth than Linux Journal. They print
a larger proportion of source code, at any rate...
