I once did a Chemistry adventure game in High School. It was written in
BASIC (text based) and ran on CP/M. The way I worked in the problems was
by forcing some rooms to lock until a problem was solved....then a doorway(s)
would open....thus allowing continued play. Some practical chemistry
was involved too...where in order to destroy the acid monster, you had
to create a neutralizing agent (combining things correctly from what you
picked up)....or in order to get a door to fully open, you had to create
a lubricant. Anyway, these might help get you started on ideas for the
architecture.
