Check out http://www.linuxppc.org/hardware/. Basically, it should run on "chrp"
machines. Run as root, "bootinfo -p". I believe IBM is working on porting it
to all their powerpc boxes.

Who is the manufacture of the machine? What is the model? Since you
say AIX, I'll guess it's one of the R6000 series workstations, but we
really need the answer to those 2 questions to help you.

No, you can NOT use Intel based programs on an R6000 machine. You need
to have programs that are compiled for the R6000. (Again, this is my
guess of what you have; if you have something different, then my answer
may change.) There are ports of the Linux kernel and GNU utilities to:
Intel, Sparc, Alpha, MacIntosh (M68K), and PowerPC. (If you have the
last, you can accomplish your goal.) Outside of those, I don't think
you'll be able to do what you want.

HTH,
Kevin
