[NTLUG:Discuss] Demo Daze

Well....there certainly are alot of people mad. And I guess that being
mad is the ultimate goal, cuz I really can't see any sense to it....

First...Demo Day was not a creation of NTLUG.

Second...Steve's 24hr game did not fit the scope of the Linux Demo
Day project.

Third...We got started on this way too late.

Fourth...Several active volunteers have their eyes set on
Amarillo.

Fifth...Without a location, all the volunteering in the world wouldn't
have kept it from being a Demo Dud.

Sixth...Despite the obvious anger, Steve's idea has merit...I don't
think anyone believes it doesn't.

So, let's let cooler heads prevail on this. The "official" Demo Day
just isn't going to work out real well for us....though I think
it was great seeing so many people trying various avenues to make
it work. There's nothing saying that we can't strive to make
an event out of it OUTSIDE of the time frame of the official
project. But perhaps, concentrating on the 24hr. game thing might
be better time spent (?).

Things I learned....

o Walmart will open their doors to us. They may even allow the
24hr game thing.

o Cox & Stripling will open their doors to us (I hope).

o VALinux Systems will provide HW.

I realize that other things were learned through this too....just
not coming to mind right now.

Perhaps we need a general PR committee which can take things
like this to task (as well as other press related issues).
Maybe it takes more than one committee...PR & LIP & Membership??

I want to thank Carter for his great efforts....I'm sorry it
didn't pan out....and thanks to everyone who rallied to
try to seek out locations....hopefully we've got more ammo
for the next time!

I think Carter put it best..."it just wasn't meant to be"...

Time to move forward,
Chris
