I had the same sort of experience in installing a Riva TNT 2 Ultra based
card in a dual boot Linux/Win95-OSR2 based system. Win 95 is now an even
bigger disaster. I can only run in 640x480 mode.

For Linux, all I needed was to install XFree86-3.3.4 and it works fine.

It is a good thing that the only use for Windoze is for my daughter to print
the Word files she needs from school. I haven't booted into Windows other
than for installing stuff for over half a year.

Regards,

Peter Koren

I make a point of comparing hardware/software installs on windows vs linux (
same machine/same functionality [sort of]).

As a rule, windows has taken about 5x longer (and much more grief!) than
linux
to do the same thing. But last weekend was the most extreme example: I
installed a voodoo3 3500 AGP card. After a day and a half of 2 dozen
reboots,
numerous re-installs, lousy documentation and support on the web, window's
sound
is messed up and the whole system is unstable and hanging every few minutes.
And this is with the software provided by the manufacturer! In utter
frustration I booted into linux and had it up and working (2D & 3D, still
have
to do TV/Radio support) in 4 minutes!

Has anyone else installed the Voodoo3? ie, the 3500 on an overclocked LX
mb??
TV/Radio support?
