[NTLUG:Discuss] DISD in the Twilight Zone?

I'm reading the 5-year Vision PDF document from
the DISD web site and can't believe what I'm seeing.
Frankly I'm not sure which of the following two items
scares me the most, the one where they lag behind
the technology or the one where they take a flying
leap into the future.

> Pg 319: Planned for school year 2001-2002:

> Replace 50 percent of the District s obsolete (386/486)
> computers with Pentium/ equivalent or above.

Uh, this means there is still 50% of those clunkers -still-
in use in three years!

> Pg 320: Planned for school year 2002-2003:

> Expand voice/video/data to include interactive
> holographic imaging over network.

I know what you did last summer -- watched Star Wars I
too many times, with their holographic communicators...

So in 2002, we'll have 386/486 PCs nestled up with
those holographic communicators - yeah right.  I hope
those holographic cards come in the ISA form factor
'cause many 386/486s don't have PCI...
