I cannot vouch for the quality/stability of their service since I do not have
it, but a friend of mine has DSL service via Southwestern Bell. He gets DSL
service for something like $39.95/month, and e-mail with them for another
$10/mo. Not a bad deal. His CIR (his guaranteed throughput) is 384Kbps
downstream (to him) and (I believe) 128Kbps upstream (from him), but he has
reported to me several times that he gets speeds analogous to the 768K frame
relay connection I have at my place of employment - around 40 to 50KBps. Not
at all bad for the price.
I don't recall what he said the setup/installation fee was, but I don't think
it was more than 150 dollars or so - I'm sure swbell.net's webpages would
provide specifics.
Also, SWB does not provide technical or installation support for Linux,
although I'm sure that it will work if properly configured.
