Description

FireHost, a secure, fast-paced, growth-oriented hosting company, has
opportunities for talented and highly motivated individuals to
interface with a wide array of enterprise-grade hardware and software,
as well as a dynamic, service-provider, network infrastructure. Daily,
Linux engineers perform logical and physical provisioning, migration,
and technical consultation to internal and external customers via
telephone, live chat, and tickets. Ideal candidates for this position
will possess exceptionally high skills in Linux operating systems, the
Linux Servers (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat), the hosting industry, and
virtualization in a service-provider model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Additional duties may be
assigned as required.)

Serves as escalation from Level 1 and Level 2
Effectively perform deep-level troubleshooting and analysis on complex
Linux systems to simulate a problem or arrive at a resolution
Advise and consult on architecture and engineering issues and approaches
Perform root cause analysis on recurring issues
Perform advanced database and performance tuning
Advise on clustering and replication improvements and strategy
Perform SQL/database/instance tuning
Perform website and application migrations on new and existing cloud servers
Resolve technical and logical support inquiries via phone, chat, and tickets
Continually identify efficiencies for systems, processes and procedures
Script automation tools to make work faster and more accurate
Mentor and guide the L1 and L2 engineers serving as an informal point
of escalation as and when needed

Required Skills

Able to handle private and confidential information with physical and
ethical care
Able to administer hosted services, such as email clients/servers, FTP
clients/servers, control panels, virtualization technologies, and web
site migrations involving databases
Able to confidently manage servers via the command line
Able to promptly respond to inquiries via email, telephone, ticketing
systems and other electronic communications
Able to multi-task, prioritize, and resolve multiple customer inquiries at once
Able to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues
Able to work overnight, weekend on-call shifts as needed

Technical Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed
below are representative of the tools, systems and knowledge
requirements in our environment today, but this list will change and
grow:
Linux Server (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat) installation, administration,
and troubleshooting
VMWare ESX 3.5/4.0 (vSphere, vCenter) installation, configuration
administration and troubleshooting
Control Panels: Plesk, cPanel, Webmin (installation, administration,
and troubleshooting)
Web Servers: IIS 6/7, Apache, Nginx (installation, administration, and
troubleshooting)
Databases: MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 (installation,
administration, and troubleshooting)
CMS: Alfresco, Drupal, WordPress (installation, administration)
Scripting (RSync, PHP, Python, Perl, Unison, etc.)
SalesForce.com (Preferred)

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general equivalence degree (GED) (required)
Minimum five years performing Linux and Windows Systems Administration
tasks (required)
Minimum three years working in hosting (preferred)
Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree (preferred)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly
required to sit and use hands. The employee may be required to assist
with tasks in the data center and perform moderate lifting up to 100
lbs.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
The work environment may be in either an office setting, at the
company’s data center, or at a third party location for training.
