Linux Support Engineer
FireHost, Inc., a secure, fast-paced, growth-oriented web hosting company, has opportunities for
talented and highly motivated individuals to interface with a wide array of enterprise-grade
hardware and software, as well as a dynamic, service-provider, network infrastructure. Daily,
Linux engineers perform logical and physical provisioning, migration, and technical consultation
to internal and external customers via telephone, live chat, and tickets.
Ideal candidates for this position will possess exceptionally high skills in Linux operating systems,
the web hosting industry, and virtualization in a service-provider model.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Additional duties may be assigned as required.
• Perform complex Linux systems administration tasks in a virtualized hosting environment
• Fulfill provisioning orders for new cloud servers and perform migrations on existing
cloud servers
• Complete web site and database migrations successfully and without errors
• Resolve technical and logical support inquiries via phone, chat, and tickets
• Continually identify efficiencies for systems, processes and procedures
• Script automation tools to make work faster and more accurate
• Perform other various duties as assigned
Required Skills
• Able to handle private and confidential information with physical and ethical care
• Able to administer hosted services, such as email clients/servers, FTP clients/servers, control
panels, virtualization technologies, and web site migrations involving databases
• Able to promptly respond to inquiries via email, telephone, and other electronic
communications
• Able to multi-task, prioritize, and resolve multiple customer inquiries at once
• Able to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues
• Able to work overnight shifts as needed
• Able to be on-call

• Linux Server (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat) installation, administration, and troubleshooting
• VMWare ESX 3.5/4.0 (vSphere, vCenter, vShield) installation, configuration, administration,
and troubleshooting
• NetApp Filer (DataOntap, iSCSI, NFS) configuration and administration
• Backup Applications: (CommVault, Symantec Backup Exec, R1Soft CDP Server, etc)
• Control Panels: Plesk, cPanel, Webmin (installation, administration, and troubleshooting)
• Web Servers: PHP, IIS 6/7, Apache, Litespeed, Nginx (installation, administration, and
troubleshooting)
• Databases: MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 (installation, administration, and
troubleshooting)
• CMS: Alfresco, Drupal, WordPress (installation, administration)
• Scripting (RSync, PHP, Python, Perl, Unison, etc.)
• Server hardware knowledge and experience (Dell PowerEdge 1950,2950,R610)
Education and/or Experience
• High school diploma or general equivalence degree (GED) (required)
• Minimum three years performing Linux and Windows Systems Administration tasks (required)
• Minimum three years working in web hosting (preferred)
• Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree (preferred)
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Primary language is English.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
