/dev/hdb means second IDE device on the first IDE controller, which may
well be a CDROM. Do an ls -l on /dev/cdrom and, if it is an ATAPI
cdrom, you will see that it is soft linked to an hd? device of some
sort.
is how the line reads in my /etc/fstab (RH 7.2). Since this stuff
varies from system to system, check your man(ual) pages for
"fstab" - but my first thought would be that your fstab cdrom
entry is incorrect, starting with the device (first entry) that your are
trying to mount. "/dev/hdb" means second hard disk in
everything I've read.
The following command is from my /etc/fstab

/dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom auto
user,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0

Does it mean that my cdrom is automounted?
If so, should i see a cdrom's contents in nautilus?
I don't.
And it won't allow me to mount manually.
I am using mandrake 8.1
My floppy has basically the same command and it mounts OK.
