I am running two DLS lines with linux one running
KRUD the other RedHat 6.2 - I run 13 windoz machines through them and 4 MACS - I
have no problem and love DSL - my only regret is that I couldn't go with a real
ISP who could relate to how I run my business - I had to go through SWBinternet
- a bunch of idiots who can only configure MACs & Windoz - Once my contracts
are up I will go with a company like netin.com - reasonably priced and totally
awesome - there are others out there as well - I have not heard of August.net I
will look into them. Mesh.net - is another that runs on linux they know what
they are talking about - just very VERY difficult to get them on the phone -
virtually impausible to get them to come out and help - at customer service they
royally suck - other than that they are fine to go through - just don't go with
swbinternet - very very bad choice on my part to go with them

I have dsl from swbell working on my system under both linux

up and running (due mostly to the
fact that I

dsl worked
immediately.

swbell dsl

I hate to bring this up yet again, but a friend jumped at
SWBell DSL offer for
his windows, and now finds he
can't connect with linux. I used to think these
were all just DHCP connections, but after looking at the windows
connection, I
see it installs a dummy ip on the
ethernet card and then a "PPPoE" connection on
top of
that with its own routing information. I'm guessing it is "ppp
over
ethernet". Of course they do not support
anything but windoze and mac. I
suspect
there might be additional authentication too, since the software takes
you to a website to sign on the first time.

Has anyone got this working thru linux? Was a solution
brought up before? Is
there a searchable archive
of NTLUG's mailing lists?
