Tom - if all you want is the addition (or subtraction) of the www before the
site name (to both point to the same physical size)...then I don't think you
want a 301 Redirect.....you need to change your DNS.
I'm running BIND - so I edit my zone tables directly...here's what I do so
that both www.site.com and site.com go to the same website / directory
within my pri.site.com zone file:
site.org. IN A 12.226.24.35
www.site.org. IN A 12.226.24.35
If you're really looking to do a 301 redirect.....just create a .htaccess
file within the website directory....and put the contents of what the 2nd
Google search found....no scripting required - it's built into the Web
