Ethereal would have worked fine, and would have saved a step. Most of
the time I peek at lan traffic it's on a remote box, so I have a
knee-jerk reaction to tcpdump to a file, and then use Ethereal to view
the dump.
Just habit, but you're right - easier just to use Ethereal.
