Hello:
I have a machine running on a T1 line from Xspedius.
When I installed the machine, I used the first IP I was
assigned (209.12.138.18) on the eth0 interface.
Now, I want to add the two additional IP addresses
as aliases eth0:1 and eth0:2.
I issued these commands:
/sbin/ifconfig eth0:1 209.12.138.19 netmask 255.255.255.240 broadcast
209.12.138.31
/sbin/ifconfig eth0:2 209.12.138.20 netmask 255.255.255.240 broadcast
209.12.138.31
Everything looks fine. ifconfig gives me:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:BD:BB:30:68
inet addr:209.12.138.18 Bcast:209.12.138.31 Mask:255.255.255.240

eth0:1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:BD:BB:30:68
inet addr:209.12.138.19 Bcast:209.12.138.31 Mask:255.255.255.240

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
Interrupt:19 Base address:0xe000
I can ping 209.12.138.18 from the outside world, but not .19 or .20.
I called Xspedius and they told me that everything is set correctly on their
side.
I checked the firewall rules, it is set to allow all incoming icmp.
Did I forget something or is Xspedius misleading me?
Thanks,
Neil
