I've had Verizon FIOS since it came to Wylie. I used midnight commander
to ftp from a fast site for my slackware so I can watch what the
transfer rate is:

slackware.mirrors.tds.net

Downloads at 623kB/s and that's kBytes/s. Most places are much slower,
so I run at their limits. If I find a site that is faster, I make note
of it for future downloads. Uploads to another site I'm on is typically
at T1 speed, 190kBytes/s,  so I really haven't seen how fast I can
upload. 

That's all with the 5 MB/s package.
