I've not tried every combination of disk geometries, so I can't vouch
for your example.  It may or may not work for your specific example.
It's even possible that, over the years, I've come across incompatible
disk geometries which forced me to change certain geometry parameters
with fdisk.  As I mentioned earlier, dd is pretty low-level stuff, and
tar or cpio might be more suitable for some.  I've found tar/cpio
impractical for full-disk backups, so I use dd for all of my backups,
and have never had a problem. YMMV.
