[NTLUG:Discuss] Problem installing TV card.

Hi!

   I bought a TV card (a FlyVideo 2000) for my son's PC (SuSE 8.1).

Being a caring parent, I've given myself plenty of time to sneakily
install it on his PC before Xmas day!

   However, I'm having no luck.

I used YAST2 to select the device driver (it didn't auto-detect it) - did
the basic configuration, etc.

Now, I can to an 'lsmod' and see this line has appeared:

     videodev 4480 0 (autoclean)

All well and good so far. However, when I try to fire up xawtv,
everything in the user interface seems to work and there were no
error message - but I don't get any kind of picture or audio...just
a blue screen.

I also tried kwintv - and it was a bit more forthcoming:

can't open /dev/video: No such device
Warning: kwintv: kv4lsetup had some trouble, trying to continue anyway.
Fatal: v4lx: Error opening v4lx device /dev/video: No such device in ::v4lxif

OK - so /dev/video is a symlink to /dev/video0 and that ls's as:

   crw------- 1 steve users 81, 0 Mar 23 2002 /dev/video0

...which looks good to me (I'm running kwintv as user 'steve').

So what's going on? What it this 'v41xif' thing?

Help!
