Linux, it's hard to use, it lacks proprietary Windows applications, it doesn't come pre-installed on the notebook I bought.... etc.
While one cannot deny these issues, here's some quick advice to help address the problem that Linux is just to hard to use:
- Enter into Linux with someone who has already taken the plunge. It really helps to know someone who already has a working system that can help you directly with problems.... a guru/teacher is your best bet when it comes to beating the "hard to use" issue.
- Seek out a community. The Linux world actually has a much, much larger community of helpful enthusiasts than does Windows. Linux Users Groups are an excellent way to interface with other new Linux users and meet seasoned Linux warriors who can help you tackle the most daunting tasks.
- Do not give up easily. Like it or not, persistence pays off. The more you put into Linux the more you will get out of it. It's not designed to force you into doing anything. We're just so used to being led around by our necks by some other software companies, that the idea of total freedom can actually be scary. Don't desire Egypt, even if you end up wandering around in the wilderness for awhile. The reward in the end is worth it.
